Active Operating Picture
Lattitude Geographics
Real-time collaborative mapping application for first responders.
Latitude wanted to extend their map viewer technology to specifically address law enforcement and first responders.
This included real-time collaboration in several areas including multiple chat channels, map interactions and data visualization.
Built on existing architecture, this had to match the look and feel of their previous generation of software.
Challenges
Since Active Operating Picture is integrated into police cruisers, ambulances, fire trucks, and other first responder vehicles, any confusion or interactions that cost our users time have the potential to cost lives.
With the stakes so high accountability is crucial. Active Operating Picture needed the ability to review and play back events in real time.
Information and Collaboration
By grouping information into channels, responders can see the information that is important to them without additional noise.
The map is updated and collaborated on in real time and is directly tied to actions in the channel. This can include drawing, geolocated images and evacuation zones for bombs and natural disasters.
Additional layers can be added to the map to show things like heatmaps of traffic conditions or known addresses of high risk offenders.
Battle Tested
Proven in the field, it is currently being run as the front end in police cruisers and other first responders in major metropolitan cities.
Ongoing user interviews with current clients has highlighted its success. Active Operating Picture has been used to shut down prescription drug rings, during bank robberies, and to stop a terrorist threat at a theme park.
